Petrified Wood Branch Cross Section w Polished End
Approx. 1 Inch in Thickness

The word petrified means "turned to stone". In certain areas of the world, dry and barren deserts now cover what was once lush with green plants & forests. For some reason the forest died and the trees fell to the ground. There silica and other mineral-bearing solutions infiltrated the wood and slowly impregnated it with stone. The stone took on the shape and color of the wood from the trees. It is a Fossilized Tree.
Polishing the end sometimes allows the cell structure (when it remains) to be seen with a microscope well enough to identify the wood.
