Petrified Dinosaur Bone Archeology Paleontology Specimen
Information Card Included

The most impressive fossiles are those of the dinosaur.  They also are among the rarest.  They are usually found as single, isolated bones and it is difficult to tell from what kind of animal they came.  Sometimes paleontologists do find whole skeletons embedded in sedimentary rocks.
The jurassic time period, 136 to 195 million years ago, saw the great expansion of the dinosaur.  In the western United States, tropical plants growing in forests and swamps fed huge plant-eating animals such as the Apatosaurus (Brontosaurus), which grew to 70 feet long, 15 feet tall, and weighed 30 tons.  Meat eaters also flourished.  The Allosaurus was 36 feet long and weighed more than two tons.  Since the above two animals were very common, this fossil fragment probably came from one of them.

Picture is representative of the specimen you will receive.  Each rock is unique and will vary in shape, size and appearance.  No two rocks will be exactly alike.
