Introduction to Simple Machines: Gears STEM Building Set, by K'Nex
Introduction to Simple Machines: Gears Building Kit
Sprocket gears, spru gears, rack & pinion, and more! The K'Nex Introduction to Simple Machines: Gears building kit was designed to introduce students to the scientific concepts that are associated with gears. Through a hands-on, inquiry based approach, they will acquire skills and information about specific concepts, as they build, investigate, discuss, and then evaluate the scientific principles in action.
The teacher's guide provides both the information, and resources, that are needed to help build student understanding of scientific concepts, while channeling their inquiries into both active, and meaningful, learning experiences. Also included are extension activities, that are designed to explore the concepts more deeply.
Included with the kit are 198 K'Nex parts, which gives a group of 2-3 students working together, enough pieces to build 7 fully functioning replicas of real-world machines, one at a time.
STEM Education focuses on concepts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and are taught through various methods of problem solving, discovery, exploratory learning, and critical thinking. It requires students to be actively participating in the learning, and K'Nex offers hands-on opportunities that encourage scientific inquiry, investigation, and experimentation. This kit is aligned with national Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, standards.
