Soapstone or, steatite as it may be called, is a metamorphic rock that is talc-schist.  It is mainly composed of talc so it is rich in magnesium but also contains varying amounts of chlorite and amphiboles.  It is produced by great dynamothermal pressures in areas where tectonic plates are subducted back into the Earth.  Soapstone has been a medium for carving for thousands of years.
A dendrite is a branching design produced on or in a mineral or rock by the crystallization of another minderal.  In this case, manganese has formed dendrites in the mineral soapstone.
